The company digital health guardian - Information Technology
In this issue's SHKP Family, we visited the IT department to see how our colleagues' work there ensures the smooth running of the company.
IT has more than 70 staff members in Hong Kong and on the mainland. Their job duties are mainly categorized into two areas: programming and daily maintenance. The former involves writing computer programmes for different departments for application with different businesses while the latter focuses mainly on cyber security maintenance, providing IT support for staff and daily maintenance issues of the Group's computer systems and data centres.
Richard Lam, Head of IT believes that as times have changed, the role of the department has shifted from a mere service provider to a planner, communicator and integrator. "We need to have a good grasp of users' requests as well as the company's operational needs and then offer viable solutions that are most suited to those needs."
Staff from IT also coordinate badminton games held during lunch period every day. "It gathers not only colleagues from our department but also those from other departments. The badminton court has become a platform for us to socialize with other co-workers."

Sun Hung Kai Centre led the way in Wan Chai North
Sun Hung Kai Centre was the first large office development in Wan Chai North. SHKP acquired the site in 1976 and built the building in three phases to allow tenants to move in as soon as possible. The challenge was to maintain quality of service and ensure safety during construction. This laid the firm foundations of expertise for later SHKP developments including International Finance Centre. This day in SHKP history: Cycling for charity and leisure
Cycling enthusiasts will be eagerly looking forward to the Cyclothon coming up later this year! The article below from a 1986 issue of the SHKP News shows that the company has been a big supporter of charity biking for many years. SHKP riders turned out in force for a fund-raiser organized by The Communist Chest of Hong Kong to celebrate the opening of a bike path between Sha Tin and Tai Po. And as the article points out, the ages of four colleagues who took part added up to almost 200, but they managed to complete the ride in less than 45 minutes! Try matching that the next time you go cycling!
Cartoon Chinese pastry class
SHKP held a cooking class this summer to show colleagues and their children how to make cute, delicious Chinese pastries. Participants then had a chance to sample their creations at the end.
Panyu and Dongguan visit
The SHKP Evergreen Club recently had a great time with retired colleagues in Dongguan and Panyu. They visited famous tourist attractions like the Sunflower Garden and Arts De Chine Museum.

Colleagues held a farewell party to mark the retirements of Leung Suk-hing, Chan Po-chun and Yum Tak-cheong. Leung and Chan had been in the Construction Department for 37 and 20 years respectively, while Yam had been with Everlight Engineering for 42 years.
Blessing of books
Group Training launched book-crossing in November to allow staff to choose the books they like from pre-owned books collected from colleagues plus hundreds of complimentary books from the Training Library.
