Thoughtful service at Oscar by the Sea to fight the virus with residents

25.02.2021

In the past year, all of us have put a lot of effort into searching for daily necessities and protective equipment, which can be a nuisance. To enable residents to stay safe at home, the Oscar by the Sea management team purchases different daily necessities and protective equipment for them, and has even provided various thoughtful services for students during the school suspension. The team provides nutritious lunches, online courses, and a homework hotline for students to show its care and offer academic support.

The team also understands the importance of maintaining the pipes to prevent the spread of germs. Therefore, in 2018, Oscar by the Sea became the first residential estate in Hong Kong to introduce pipe inspection robots in impluviums to prevent the spread of diseases because of leakage. The team provides attentive service and has served as the strongest backer for residents during the pandemic.

Sanfield measures effectively contain virus spread

24.12.2020

The pandemic is a serious health crisis. But effective responses can minimize its adverse impact. Earlier, a worker at the West Rail Yuen Long South Station site was confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. SHKP's Sanfield took immediate action, closing the site for one day on the following day for thorough disinfection. Virus testing was arranged for daily- and monthly-rated workers, consultants and MTR site representatives. A number of corresponding measures were also implemented. Thanks to the decisive and effective handling of the incident, the virus did not spread on the site, and Sanfield received a letter of recognition from the Development Bureau. We hope that all SHKPers will stay vigilant and continue to observe good personal hygiene.

Some of the anti-pandemic measures at the Yuen Long Station site

Providing comprehensive cleansing and disinfection of restrooms, washrooms, the office, gates and worker lounge every two hours Changing all meetings to video conferencing to reduce gatherings  Setting up an automatic disinfection spray machine at the office entrance for site workers and guests to use Installing transparent partitions between work desks and arranging different teams to work in designated zones to avoid cross infection Having Sanfield site foremen and safety officers proactively distribute surgical masks at the site, and encourage and instruct workers to wear masks properly Introducing foot-operated wash basins on the site to reduce exposure to bacteria and minimize the risk of the virus spreading Providing alcohol-based hand sanitizer on the site for workers to use

Smart water leakage alarm and cut-off system to protect property

08.01.2021

Property management is a labour-intensive industry, as it requires substantial manpower to perform the daily patrols and inspections. To keep pace with new smart technology applications, automatic facility management has been introduced in various SHKP projects. Hong Yip's Superpower Pumping Engineering developed a 'Smart water leakage alarm and automatic cut-off system' to swiftly and effectively reduce the chance of damage to facilities in the event of water leakage.

In the past, a burst pipe or any water leakage in a building could lead to flooding if not detected in time, which could result in facility damage and property losses to owners and occupants. With the smart system developed by Superpower, if a pipe bursts, the system automatically cuts off the water supply and activates the pump. It also sends the entire property management team real-time water leakage notifications from a cloud integrator, allowing them to monitor the system's operations using their smartphones. This helps the team effectively and swiftly handle leakage problems and significantly reduces the level of damage.

SHKP wins silver award at ISIA for transplanting a giant intertwined tree

30.11.2020

SHKP places great importance on building quality and is committed to environmental protection. When widening Sai Sha Road for the Shap Sz Heung integrated project, an SHKP associate leveraged its professional knowledge and used innovative technologies to transplant a rare giant intertwined Ficus microcarpa tree for conservation, and was awarded silver at the Innovative Safety Initiative Award (ISIA) 2020, organized by the Development Bureau of the HKSAR government and the Construction Industry Council.

Pioneering transplantation technologies in Hong Kong

The transplanted intertwined Ficus microcarpa tree is over 50 years old and about 17 metres tall. To ensure smooth road-widening work during efforts to conserve the tree, which is deeply cherished in the neighbourhood, the team spent nine months preparing for the transplantation. Difficulties included the project's proximity to a seminary and a bus station, the tree's intertwined roots, and the vast number of underground pipes around it. In preparation for the move, SHKP deployed a professional team to inspect the tree's health a number of times and detect the location and size of its roots to estimate the amount of soil required at its new location. The team also set up a large metal frame to support the entire tree.

Transplanting the giant tree using new technologies

To lift the intertwined tree, along with its supporting frame, which together weighed 183 tonnes, the team made use of various new technologies, including a large number of motion sensors and a VR management platform, to monitor the tree in real time. Using 3D scanning technology, the team accurately estimated the weight and centre of gravity of the intertwined tree. Also, the team pioneered new technology in the city by utilizing two remote high-end, self-propelled carriers, whose assembly could be changed according to shipping needs, greatly reducing the risk and the manpower required for the transplantation.

The intertwined tree is now thriving in its new location and continues to be a district landmark.
